Iceland School of Energy

During the Summer of 2023, I studied abroad at the Iceland School of Energy (Reykjavik University), where I completed a capstone on Renewable Energy and Sustainability Innovation. This  study abroad experience was a pivotal chapter that profoundly shaped my perspective on sustainability and renewable energy. Immersed in courses on hydropower, geothermal energy, and Iceland's economy and culture at Reykjavik University, I gained a comprehensive understanding of innovative energy solutions.

During this time, a team capstone project emerged, focusing on renewable energy innovation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our creation, "Bountifuel," This idea aimed to harness renewable energy sources on farmlands across the U.S., focusing on off-grid farming practices and optimizing the energy potential of farmlands. Additionally, Bountifuel explored the innovative concept of climate currency, involving carbon credits and renewable energy certificates (RECs) to incentivize sustainable farming practices.  This startup concept seamlessly integrated with our exploration of Iceland's unique landscapes and commitment to sustainable practices.

Reflecting on this experience, I realized the power of collaborative efforts in driving meaningful change. The capstone project not only showcased our dedication to renewable energy but also underscored the importance of merging theoretical knowledge with practical solutions. It was in the vibrant discussions, hikes, and camping experiences with my diverse cohort that I grasped the interconnectedness of global sustainability challenges.

This study abroad journey ignited a renewed sense of purpose, emphasizing that sustainable practices aren't confined to classrooms but extend into real-world initiatives. It laid the foundation for my commitment to advocate for tangible solutions, inspiring others to embrace a sustainable and resilient future.
