INTB 5022: Economics of Immigration
Australia Study Abroad

As a Brazilian immigrant and granddaughter of Italian immigrants, I have always been interested in how migration shapes economies and societies. Through this program in Australia, I explored the country’s unique economic landscape, its multicultural identity, and the challenges of balancing sustainability with growth.

During my time in Sydney, I engaged with professionals from corporations, government organizations, and NGOs, gaining insight into how Australia’s economy is shaped by its geography and immigration patterns. I observed how market concentration influences competition, how immigration defines national identity, and how sustainability goals sometimes conflict with economic priorities. These experiences deepened my understanding of how interconnected economic, social, and environmental factors shape a country’s development.

I selected my reflective paper on Australia’s economic, social, and environmental landscape because it captures my firsthand observations from the program. It explores how Australia’s market dynamics, multiculturalism, and sustainability efforts interact, highlighting key takeaways from site visits and discussions. This paper represents my ability to critically reflect on real-world economic and societal trends, reinforcing my understanding of global interconnectedness.
